About the index

Furniture is one of the largest consumer categories in the world and one of the worst indexed. A buyer in Dubai looking for solid-teak dining tables at fifty-unit minimums has no single place to find qualified manufacturers. A homeowner in Bengaluru looking for a Scandinavian sofa showroom within ten kilometres has to fight through directory spam. A brand trying to map its own distribution cannot find out who already stocks it.

Those are the same question asked three different ways, which means one properly classified index answers all three. That index is what this site is.

What makes it different

Anyone can scrape a list of business names. The hard part, and the only part that matters, is classification. Every business here is tagged along nine independent axes: entity type, business model, furniture category, home-decor brands carried, material, design style, services, geography and commercial terms. Independent means a single business can be a manufacturer and an exporter, working in solid wood and rattan, serving both trade and retail, without the taxonomy fighting itself.

The brand axis is the one nobody else has. Knowing that a store is an authorised dealer for one brand and merely stocks another is the difference between a useful dealer locator and a list of shops.

The rules we hold ourselves to

  • Listing is free, permanently. The paid claim buys editorial control and a verification badge, not a listing and not a ranking.
  • Paid placement is always labelled. Featured slots are marked as featured. Relevance is never sold.
  • Inferred data is marked as inferred. Where a category or material was guessed by a machine, the page says so and anyone can correct it.
  • Rejected claims are refunded in full. The card is authorised on submission and captured only on approval.
  • Reviews are not removable for being negative. Owners get a public right of reply instead.
  • Closed businesses are marked closed, not deleted. People search for them, and the record matters.

Where the data comes from

Four stacked sources: OpenStreetMap for the global backbone, owner submissions, structured imports from trade bodies and exhibitor lists, and an enrichment pass that reads businesses’ own public web pages for founding year, social profiles and category signals. Full detail is on the data and sources page.
